Basic Map Reading Navigation Skills Course 

Come and learn how to read topographical maps.

Explore contour lines.

Unlock the mysteries of Latitude and Longitude.

Become familiar with the Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) Grid Coordinate System.

Learn how to use map scales.

Measure linear and non-linear distances on a map.

Greatly improve your Navigational Skills.

Become confident in how to use a Compass.

True North vs. Magnetic North.

What is Declination?

How to take a Compass Bearing.

Have fun plotting the route for a wilderness canoe trip.

 

Above all: Learn to know where you are at all times in the wilderness.

 

This course is open only to LOC members.

No experience or special mathematical skills are required.

There will be a $12.00 charge to cover course materials.

The course book will be yours to keep for future reference.

Participants will need to bring their own compass.

All other materials will be provided.

 

IMPORTANT: Registration is required – Cutoff date: 16th April 2017
