This beginners course is for Canoe & Kayak (canoe preferred) with overnight tent camping.
The main point of this course is to introduce the participants to the equipment required on a multi-day canoe trip and how to use it. You will need the same equipment whether it is a 2 day or 10+ day trip. The only thing that changes is the amount of food that you will need.
We will be covering topics such as cooking methods ie Naphtha verses Propane stoves, Reflector ovens, Water purification, Dish washing etiquette, Personal hygiene, Tents, Sleeping bags, Clothes, Maps & navigation, Kitchen equipment, Food and food storage, Waterproofing and a whole lot more. The onus will be on correct equipment and safety.
This course should prepare the participants for longer trips with them feeling more confident in knowing the fundamentals of Wilderness tripping.
We will have a meeting, approx two hours long, during the week of 10th July to organize menus and equipment etc.
Some boats and equipment are available for those who do not have it, on a first come basis.
Sign up is required for this trip. Cut-off date is July 7th 2017.
Limited to 12 people; contact coordinator to be put on wait list if full.
This course is open to LOC members only!
