Subject: Cycling in the Netherlands Spring 2023
From: Lambton Outdoor Club

Hello LOC Cyclists.

Dave and I (Sharon) are planning a bike and boat excursion to the Netherlands with Boat Bike Tours  in the spring (late April/early May).  There is a possibility of a second week of cycling from a home base in Valkenburg, (Limburg), facilitated by John Damoiseaux, who has family and connections there.

A number of people have mentioned they would like to join the adventure(s) so I thought I'd send a message to cyclists to see if there are others who may be innterested.  It could be a club trip or it could be a group of individuals coordinating their timing.  There is a discount if we fill a boat (16 people).

For the boat/bike part of the trip we chose Boat Bike Tours due to excellent reports from LOC members.  Boat Bike Tours  has two guided bicycle tours each day: a slower, shorter one and a medium speed longer one, plus maps and advice should a participant wish to venture off on their own.

We chose the location due to excellent reports from LOC members, including the fact that bicycles rule…they don’t have to share roads with vehicles!  Once timing is confirmed the actual route can be chosen.

For the Valkenberg part of the trip we would stay at a hotel and do day rides, of which there are a wide variety of options.   It would be immediately before or after the Boat Bike Tour, intended to provide additional unique experience in the Netherlands.  John’s connections are locals who know the area well.

We chose the timing because the late April and early May weather here is too unpredictable for the amount of riding we would like to do.  It also leaves the summer free for closer to home outdoor activities.  Also, we prefer ‘shoulder season’ as there tend to be fewer people at tourist locations.  AND we heard, from Nico and Barb, such awesome stories of the king’s birthday, and from Gwendolyn of the tulips blooming, that we want to include those if we can.

If you are interested and would like to learn more, please send me a message by return email.  I will set up a zoom meeting to discuss details.
