Paddling Guidelines

Lambton Outdoor Club (LOC) was formed to allow people with a shared interest in the outdoors to enjoy time together doing the activities they enjoy.  Paddling is one of these activities.  All participants should
understand the risks of paddling,   Paddling Risks    comply with the law,
understand LOC rules for paddling      Paddling Rules

know what is expected of them and take responsibility for their readiness and actions.
     Participant Responsibilities

Participants will also know what to expect from their event leader         Leader Responsibilities

It would also be a good idea for kayakers to familiarize themselves with the types of boats available to help them learn which ones are suitable for differing activities.

Our Club arranges events to accommodate beginners, intermediate and advanced paddlers on a variety of waters such as

  • sheltered/calm waters

  • slow moving rivers with gentle to moderate flow that can be paddled in both direction

  • moderate moving rivers that may not be paddled in both directions

  • small in-land lakes

  • along the shore of Lake Huron or similar lakes

  • in large moderately flowing rivers that may have rapids/swifts and that are not paddled in both directions

Our Club does not arrange

  • white water paddles,

  • waters that by law requires a helmet - Class 3 or above which has rapids with moderate and irregular waves

  • paddles in waters with moderate or high current that have streamers and strainers because fallen trees with partial or full blockage

  • Paddles in waters with both moderate or high current and rocky surface that may pose the risk of foot entrapment
