IMPORTANT: All who wish to participate in this event must pre-register before the event. If you find you are unable to attend, kindly cancel your registration.

If you are a non-member wishing to participate, you must first join the Lambton Outdoor Club, which includes completing the member waiver. A one month free trial membership is available for first time participants. Having enjoyed an outing or two, we hope you’ll join our wonderful club following your free trial membership. The annual membership fee is $25.

While participating, be respectful of other members' health management decisions and protective steps, and please stay home if you are feeling unwell.

This is a continuation of the September 30, 2022 LOC Hike.


The Bruce Trail Conservancy conserves and cares for land within the Niagara Escarpment UNESCO World Biosphere to protect its ecosystems for the benefit of all and make it available to explore by foot along the magnificent Bruce Trail.



Note: out-of-town, multi day trips are available for members only.

Important: Participants in Bruce Trail hikes are expected to register for a couple pre-conditioning hikes.

Drive up Day:
Friday, September 29,
2023 Map 39 from Richardson Side Trail 86.0 to Cape Chin South Road 96.5.

You must be at the Spirit Rock Outpost and Lodge, Wiarton parking lot by 12:45pm.

We will depart for the hike at 1:00pm.

This is an approx. 250km drive from Sarnia and will take approx. 3.5 hours. Suggested Route: Highway 21 to Southampton. As you exit Southampton, turn left on Highway 13 to Oliphant. At Oliphant, turn right on Highway 13. Drive to Highway 6, Turn right and the Spirit Rock Lodge is on the left.

 

Saturday, September 30, 2023 from Cape Chin South Road 96.5 to Dyers Bay Road 115.6.

 

Sunday, October 01, 2023 from Dyers Bay Road 115.6 to Crane Lake Road.127.9

Note: A portion of Crane Lake Road goes through a marsh area and the road is partially to fully flooded dependant on how wet the weather has been. Recommend to carry in your backpack a pair of water shoes or other (something light since you will be carrying them) that you can use to get across this water to prevent getting your hiking boots wet. Also bring a hand towel to dry your feet to get back into your hiking boots

 

 

Saturday and Sunday Meet in the Spirit Rock Lodge parking lot at 7:45 AM for introductions and other information. We will depart the Spirit Rock Lodge at 8:00am SHARP for the Hike. We Do NOT Wait!

We normally stay in 2 Star Hotels/Motels. They DO NOT have wake-up calls. Take and set 2 alarm devices!

Sunday will be a little faster since there is a fair amount of road hiking.

3 Days, Hiking approx. ½ Day on Friday and Sunday, 6-8 hours on Saturday

 

Costs
Money is Required For:

Hotel rooms and meals,

parking - several parking lots have charges 

Also donations of $5 per day plus donations towards any parking lot fees are suggested to help defray the costs of those drivers shuttling hikers to and from Trail heads. 

A volunteer 'accountant' will collect and distribute such donations.
Required Items to Bring

Hiking Poles and Boots; Snacks and Lunches, Rain Gear (We hike Rain or Shine), Water – at least 2 litres per day is recommended.

 

Recommended to Bring

Bug Spray,
Head Bug net (Black Flies are unlikely this time of year),
Suntan Lotion,
Masks-especially if car pooling and masks are suggested.


Expected Conditions Participants Should Be Prepared For:

Possible slippery rocks from rain or morning dew, hills to climb and descend, uneven ground,

This is a 2 Star Hotel which is typical for this area. Three of us (Loc Members) stayed there in June, 2022 and deemed it adequate.

It includes a Continental Breakfast, separate Kitchenette with microwave, small fridge in room.

I have reserved a block of rooms until May 31, 2023 under my name, Lester Earle:

1 Queen Bed $110/night + Taxes and fees(municipal) = $130/night

2 Queen Bed $120/night + Taxes and fees(municipal) = $141/night

2 Bed Family Room $130/night + Taxes and fees(municipal) = $153/night
