All who wish to participate in this event must pre-register. If you find you are unable to attend, kindly cancel your registration.

If you are a non-member wishing to participate, you must first join the Lambton Outdoor Club, which includes completing the member waiver. A one month free trial membership is available for first time participants. Having enjoyed an outing or two, we hope you’ll join our wonderful club following your free trial membership. The annual membership fee is $25.

While participating, be respectful of other members' health management decisions and protective steps.

Do not participate if you have symptoms of, or have been exposed to, any communicable disease.

Canoe Safety Course  (It could save your life)

 

Maximum 8 participants, on a first come basis.
Minimum of 4 participants required to make this a go!

Open to LOC members.

Registration is required.

Course fee :-    FREE.


The Canoe Safety Course is designed to introduce the canoeist to self rescue and assisted rescue techniques. 

The emphasis is on mastering the fundamentals of self rescue, along with water safety and safe canoeing practices.

 

PrerequisitesMust be able to swim without a PFD and paddle a canoe with control.

 

The course will cover the following:-

                          

MOT & Coast Guard regulations.

Selection of PFD.

Donning a PFD in deep water.

Entering and exiting canoe from dock or shore.              

Swimming with and paddling a swamped canoe.                                  
Canoe over canoe rescue and re-entering canoe.
Capistrano Flip.

Throw line technique.

Safe canoeing procedures and outdoors precautions.                                                                

                                                                                                                                                                            There is a fee to enter the Great Canadian Hideaway Park : $5.00 per person per day.

 

Bring your own Lunch. (There is a food concession there, but no guarantee that it will be open.)

Change rooms and toilets near beach.

Canoes available for rent at site. $15 / hour + hst or $45 / day  + hst.

The course goes rain or shine. ( Exception will be thunder and lightening or high winds)
