Bringing Mentorship to LOC
The Lambton Outdoor Club Membership Committee is pleased to announce that it has launched, as a pilot project, a mentoring program to help any member - and particularly new members - feel comfortable participating in Club events. New members will have an opportunity to access the mentoring program when they join the Club. When a new member indicates an interest in the mentoring program, one of the team of mentors will contact him/her. Based on the member’s interests, the mentor can:
- discuss the new member’s interests and activity level, and the offerings of the Club
- direct the new member to the activities that are likely to be most suitable and enjoyable for the member.
- explain any activity protocols and fitness and skill expectations, and the different levels of activity that may be offered.
- help the new member navigate the Club website (calendar of events, activity groups, activity guidelines, profile, etc.) and help with the selection of and registration for an event.
- outline what to expect when attending an event (e.g. introductions, information provided, role of the leader, general rules for participants) and possibly accompany the new member to an event.
- be available by telephone or mail for any questions the new member may have as they become familiar with our club.
The mentoring program will also be available on the website to current members. Current members may find this program helpful, for example, if they are interested in trying an event category new to them and they would like some insight into that particular activity.
The purpose of this mentoring program is to have members, new and current, feel comfortable trying and participating in as many activities as they would like.
If you have any questions or would like to be involved, please contact Joan Elliott, Membership Chair, membership@lambtonoutdoorclub.org
