Proposed Muskoka Hiking Trip September 13-17, 2021

Looking for a getaway to explore forest trails and to walk beside beautiful lakes while spending the extra time swimming, kayaking or just enjoying a glass of wine on the dock while loons float by? Join Brenda Lorenz for a 4-night, 5-day packed trip centred around lovely Port Sydney near Huntsville.

The base will be at Clyffe House Cottage Resort. It is situated on the shore of Lake Mary in the Muskoka District Town of Huntsville. This resort has been operated by the same family for more than 100 years.  The resort offers a number of cottages which will easily accommodate the group during this period. The resort website is https://clyffehouse.com

We will visit Arrowhead Provincial Park to hike on some of their trails, including around the namesake lake. It is about 20 minutes from the resort near Huntsville.

Another area that we will visit is Limberlost Forest and Wildlife Reserve. It is a publically accessible private year-round wilderness haven with twenty private lakes and more than 10,000 unspoiled acres of mixed forest near Huntsville. There are more than 70 km of hiking, biking, skiing and snowshoeing trails made available to the public at no charge. It is about 45 minutes from the resort.

There are a number of trails within walking distance of the resort that we will be able to explore. The area was managed by Ministry of Natural Resources where in the winter they groomed cross-country ski trails. Some of these trails can still be found as well as snowmobile trails that provide excellent access to the area during the off-season.

There is a restaurant in Port Sydney as well as a number of them in Huntsville for suppers. Participants will be responsible for breakfasts and lunches.

More details will be provided when the group list is finalized. There will be a maximum of 10 participants.

Please note that the Clyffe House offers shared accommodations – shared washrooms and eating rooms.
